Radio Student is the first non-profit radio station in Croatia. Established in Zagreb in 1996, what started as a student workshop and a place for future journalists to get some hands-on experience quickly outgrew its format and, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the people involved, became a full-blooded radio station in its own right. Today, around 150 people – mostly volunteers and students who produce more than 50 thematically different shows every week – run Radio Student. Through classic FM broadcasting, Radio Student also offers 24/7 audio and video internet streaming and podcasts on its webpage. The shows, as well as the music featured on the radio, mostly focus on themes and artists that can’t make their voice heard in mainstream and commercial media. The emphasis is on quality, critical opinion and originality, promoting public interest in areas such as human rights, ecology, culture, politics, and many others.
